Support Throughout Your Postdoc

Newcomers

The inherent turnover of postdocs in academia means we are constantly welcoming new faces to the Department of Biochemistry. Newcomers can find a wealth of information at the following website: https://welcome.ox.ac.uk/
Further information for all research staff can be found at: https://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/personnel/staffinfo/resstaff/

Mentoring for Research

The Department of Biochemistry runs a mentoring scheme for postdoctoral researchers, created to support you as early career scientists who are keen to develop the skills needed to fulfil your potential. This scheme uses mentoring circles that allow peer-to-peer mentoring, alongside the traditional one-to-one mentor to mentee relationship.
If you are interested in joining the scheme, apply by completing the form on the website at http://www.bioch.ox.ac.uk/workingdept/dtm/departmental-mentoring-scheme and returning it to Rita Emberton (Level 3, HR).

Mental wellbeing and resilience in academia

The Department of Biochemistry holds an annual Wellbeing Day that gives all staff the opportunity to reflect on their wellbeing and offers practical advice on how to cope with the challenges a career in academia can produce. In 2018, the day programme included talks from Occupational Health and the Mindful Employer Scheme on topics including learning optimism and positive thinking, mental resilience and identifying sources of poor occupational health. The Departmental Café promoted the importance of a healthy eating, and the Oxford University Sport and the University Estates Team advertised the University Bike purchase scheme. All of these services are available to all staff throughout the year.
